Why is Binh Nguyen certain that Debian's *not* popular?

Maybe it's just Perth (WestOz), but the distro I most often run into "in the wild" is Debian, closely followed by Red Hat.

I prefer to use Mandrake, largely because of the user-friendly/convenience features and tools. If Debian were that easy out of the box, I'd think seriously of changing my default distro.
