Thomas Edison eventually repented of his idiocy and apologised, but I can't see Microsoft doing that. Today, AC is king, tomorrow, Open Source will ensure that truly standards-based software fills the same role in the computing industry.

If your software is shackled to any proprietary, non-standard millstone^Wcomponent, now (or even yesterday) would be the time to start adjusting it for better survivability. When Shorthorn arrives sometime in the next few years and breaks all of your precious MSIE-specific code, it's going to be too late to change. Evolution in action, so to speak.
