I don't think he claims to be "better than Linus"... he just believes that LinuX is crap. And, just like about every Sun engineer, they either have not used a GNU/Linux distribution or they haven't tried one since Red Hat 5.0.

One thing to remember about Theo is the work he does. Sure, he's opinionated and yes, sometimes he acts like an ass but OpenBSD is as tight as a latex mini-dress.

FOSS needs a few mad-scientists. Theo's a good one.

OpenBSD isn't that great IMHO.

And... actually he's a bad example of a scientist since he tries to live in a closet. Close minded people never make good scientists. He doesn't want to believe that the world is actually round.

I guess you're attempting to create an empowering interpretation -- very admirable. I would like to have a generous spirit toward Theo. In the background, I respect him as a Being, in the foreground, he's demonstrated some serious bad judgment.
