The bigger story, and probably the more difficult one, is how many servers and PCs are re-purposed from other platforms from free-of-cost Linux downloads.

Kind of interesting to wonder if the sales numbers are more relevant to somebody selling enterprise class development tools or if the "missing" re-purposed/free combos are.

On the one hand, corporations go for the proper "ground up" full support kind of thing. On the other, one appeal for Linux is all of the work you can do without making expensive purchases.

I wonder if any corporations are throwing Linux on junk for initial development -- even if they buy the fancy tools -- then ponying up for support, Linux-certified machines, etc. when roll-out approaches.

If not, they're missing a bet.
