This is a long-overdue service. Most "Joe and Josephine Sixpacks" don't want to invest the time and energy in developing PC skills, and I don't blame them, because PCs are complex and fragile. They're still hacker's toys. Imitating the phone service model- powerful servers and network, simple, specialized appliances for the user- makes a lot of sense. Now if that would also translate into removing the responsibility for security from unsophisticated users, and moving it back to the server room, that would a nice bonus. Maybe someday we'll get our Internet back from spammers and malware authors. |
