With the current Windows, do you have:

1) the security of having to have admin enable an executable?

2) a rock-solid degree of hardware support for the hardware that you support?

3) application management like either ports trees, yum, or apt?

4) a 3D desktop?

On some of these, Windows is trying to play me-too. On the others, they're either not there yet or have no plans to be. Regarding hardware support. Yes, I use an NDISwrapper with my Broadcom chipset. However, Linux has given rock-solid support to an Olympus camera, Sony CD drive, and WD hard drive that XP only supported temperamentally.

I don't use Linux because of cost. I would use it even if it cost as much as MS-Office. With Linux, I can trust that my computer will work securely, fast, and well... which is where Windows will not foreseeably come close to being a me-too.

(Not only that, but, with Anaconda, Linux is easier to install and set up.)

All true. Now sell that to somebody in industry and bust through the 3% market share.
