We had the other day a garden clean-up drive (I live in a small block of flats at the edge of inner Helsinki, of a dozen households) and after the work, over a beer, got to talk about everything under the sun. These are people from all walks of life, upper middle class mostly, but when I mentioned the newest Word virus and the OOo alternative, they had all heard of it (though not switched... yet). What was more, they were all aware that it is an effective drop-in replacement for 99%-plus of their documents.
