Does anyone have any experience of actually dealing with WindRiver regarding their GNU/Linux products? I couldn't really find any public source code downloads at their website. I am wondering how closely they actually comply to the GPL, regarding source code access, access to derived works etc. I just hope they do not turn out to be another target for Harald Welte. There's enough companies out there who do utilise GNU/Linux but do not play by the rules already.

I believe they use Red Hat on their systems: http://www.redhat.com/about/presscenter/2004/press_windriver...

Well, when WindRiver was first exploring the FOSS world, they bought the commerical version of BSD (BSD/OS?). One of the things hosted by the previous owners was Slackware. WindRiver promptly dumped Slackware.

Needless to say, I take everything they say about Linux with a shaker of salt.

Can you really take them seriously with a name like Wind River? I know I can't...

devnet: I know about vxworks, it is a popular embedded operating system. vxworks is non-free, so there's no question you won't be able to get the source code unless you pay big money to them. However, with the Linux kernel licensed under the GPL, they'll have to make source code of original products and derived works available. I'd simply like to know if they actually do....
