About the web-page:

Most 'crackers' (that's what they are) work with DOS I believe. As an experienced "Keyz/warez-downloader" (the time before I discovered *BSD/Linux) I can tell you their ASCII-art is always best viewed in the DOS-editor. Poor kids, huh?

ASCII/ANSI art is a heritage. They don't actually work with DOS anymore.

That said, most of these people now are hacks that wouldn't have been able to deal in that era. That they're corporate tools is one sign.
