We need articles like this for PostgreSQL too.

We need to eliminate the meme that MySQL is easier than PostgreSQL to manage. It's not when you use a great tool like pgAdmin III: http://www.pgadmin.org/

pgAdmin III is available from the Fedora and Ubuntu repositories. I don't know about the base Debian repositories, but there are instructions on adding the appropriate line to the sources.list for apt.

There are ODBC and JDBC connectors available for PostgreSQL. I even wrote up a short instruction for connecting OOo to PostgreSQL using JDBC over in the OpenOffice.org forums: http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?p=120400

I don't know that censorship is the answer here. eliminating the memes and all. Maybe work on the areas where postgresql suffers in comparison to mysql. Soar with your strengths, manage your weaknesses, you know....

Indeed, pgAdmin III appears quite impressive. I have to give PostgreSQL another try.

@herzeleid

Perhaps I should have phrased it: "... overcome the meme ...".

Censorship certainly is not the answer in this. But producing laudatory articles about PostgreSQL comparable to the articles on MySQL would be.

I know, I'm just playing devil's advocate here...

I would just like to see more documentation for using PostgreSQL with apps like OOo and others. There was an effort to enable GnuCash to work with PG as a back-end, but it died apparently. :-( Things like that, though would go a long way toward helping more people discover how much fun PG can be. In my limited experience with it, I really quite like it. But I haven't gotten into anything fancy yet.

At least on my system, the install was easy.
