Multi Booting CentOS 4.4 and several openSUSE 10.2 instances

In this case we do have to perform CentOS install from SATA Optical Drive, otherwise CentOS won't work properly with several SATA drives.So, option:- linux all-generic-ide pci=nommconf

is obviously unacceptable for production environment .

Have you tried with a backported Fedora 6/Rawhide or RHEL 5 beta kernel compiled to work with CentOS 4.x? 2.6.20 and 21 are much better at SATA than a fully-patched 3 year-old kernel.
