Before starting I should say IANAI500A (I Am Not An Indianapolis 500 Aficionado). It would be a mistake to consider my comments expert.

My first observation is that Tux starts at #31 of 33, do not expect or hold an illusion of a win.

Second, the pictures (Image Galleries) at http://www.tux500.com tux500.com are pretty neat, even for a non-fan and helps us unfamiliar to recognize the automobile carriage involved in the event.

Third, the car race will begin at 12:00 MDT (they say, though they usually lie in my experience, to beam 100's of pre-event commercials to your brain) today Sun May 27. It is expected to last 4 hrs (14,400 s http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SI SI). I've yet to establish which, if any, cablecast and/or broadcast TV channels the race will be x-cast on.

Fourth, 11% of the field will be female according to http://sports.yahoo.com/irl/news?slug=ap-irl-indy500-fisher&... "Fisher the other woman at Indy." Maybe when they retire they will go into IT. Then IT will be 22% female.

Fifth, I'm informed that the first to cross an arbitrary lines "wins" the race. This is philosophically a "hare over tortoise" philosophy toward an arbitrary notion of "win."

Sixth, boy I'm in a mood today.

The race will be aired on ABC. I think I'm allowed to say that much. ;-)

Don, you may now say anything you wish. The donations are closed, Tux500 is now transitioning from campaign to LIFE project mode and we are all a bit more knowledgeable if not bruised for the experience.

You may now remove the duct tape. ;-)

Don and Helios, Thanks again. I don't know if you expected all the flak, but I know that IMO you didn't deserve it. Enjoy the race.

dino, my fave phrase of the day is "Death Prattle", in response to that dumb "Ubuntu Death Rattle" blog. That was over on Brand X Today.

drivel dribble. hee.
