When I think about it, Ubuntu isn't such a bad choice as the Linux Distribution that DELL are using on their Linux boxes. It's sufficiently different from MS Windows in look and feel (much more so than KDE, in fact most Windows users don't realise that a KDE desktop isn't a Windows desktop, initially) that it enables DELL to differentiate, in a marketing sense. And it's good solid Linux with lots of ease of use features, and it has a strong commercial backup. I think, all in all, they made a good choice.

Mind you, I'll still replace it with Mandriva, if I get the chance to buy a DELL Linux box.
