You should still convert - you'll get improved DB reliability. And if it's not worth worrying about reliability, then it's not worth putting in a DB.

PostgreSQL has a longer history as "tried and true" but Firebird has been proving itself for smaller and "one-off" projects even since its inception as "Interbase" ...
