VMware (http://www.vmware.com/technology/virtual-datacenter-os/appli... ): "vApp leverages OVF, an open industry standard, to specify and encapsulate all components of a multi-tier application as well as the operational policies and service levels associated with it.". I'm curious to know how they "leverage" the format...by extending it, or supporting it and providing infrastructure services that complement the to-be-standardized OVF format (http://xml.coverpages.org/ni2007-09-11-a.html)? I don't follow this subject a lot - it may now be accepted by the DMTF... please let me know if it has now been accepted. Am I wrong in saying the "write once, run anywhere" statement that the articles headline makes is drawn from VMWares support of a potential open standard, that VMware alone, didn't create? I suppose it annoys me a little that the title of this article /sounds/ as though it's attributing the OVF format to VMWare, in some way, when they alone didn't make this specification. |
