Yes, that's right, particularly in the HP-UX area. HP coasts on stuff that took place a long time ago.

HP-UX: still has a System V "make", fer cryin out loud. It still uses a pretty stock BSD FFS file system. They have a C89 compiler, but it's not very good.

They're coasting, counting on corporate customers to just keep buying the same old same old.

HP-UX requires FFS only for the boot files, for access by OpenBoot PROM. They have an OEM agreement with Veritas (or at least did, four years ago).
