Who cares?

Find yourself another distro and be happy. That is the ultimate strength of linux and free software. You don't have to be at the mercy of a few oversized heads.

Voting with your feet is an honorable path.

I've done it myself on mutliple occasions -- moving from Debian to SuSE when Debian hosed up KDE (that would be about ten years ago in the QT/QPL brouhaha), and from SuSE to mythbuntu when KDE went all 4 on me.

Be happy that other candidates are eager for your vote.

And even within the more general Ubuntu camp, there are also the XFCE and LXDE Ubuntu offshoots minimally tied-down to the "oversized heads; namely Xubuntu and Lubuntu, respectively.

AAMOF, Lubuntu has a VERY active development -- and perhaps more importantly -- an active user community. Here are a few sites that may indicate the degree of Lubuntu's seriousness as a Ubuntu-variant and its active community involvement : - DistroWatch.com's Lubuntu, http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=lubuntu - 'lubuntu | light Ubuntu for faster computing', http://lubuntu.net/ - 'Lubuntu - Ubuntu wiki', https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu

From this last link, it is unfortunately true on the base-packages level that Lubuntu must rely on the standard non-LXDE Ubuntu packages. Therefore, Lubuntu is somewhat constrained by Ubuntu and its parent sponsor Canonical :-{ At the same time, the Lubuntu Community's choice of LXDE-specific packages to deploy -- again, the emphasis on the Community here -- helps it break free from Shuttleworth's lockdown-choices for the parent distro.

If you attach to the ubuntu repositories ... your running ubuntu, I dont care what jobsianesque letter you prepend it with. {k,l,x,l,ed,#!}ubuntu is still just ubuntu. Its like asking does this rose smell like a rose or a daffodil?
