Forget the webinar (gotta love English, it's so flexible), how much for a mobo/CPU combo?

The Cray or the Opteron 6100? newegg.com has a barebones server for $899. I may be getting one at some point.

Bigg, that's without CPUs. I agree, it's a very nice start, though.

A 1-U with dual 12-core, in the immortal words of Neo, "Whoa."

I built myself a TV cabinet to hold all the dvds and whatnot, and put my can't-run-decent-video 1GHz server in it. If only I'd given it some thought, I would have made sure that the middle cabinet was 19" wide and installed rack-mount brackets for just such an occasion.

Oh well, a good excuse for building another one!

I haven't seen the CPU for sale. AMD pricing starts at $744, so retail will be somewhat more, but that's not bad for 12 cores. It's really not bad if your employer buys it for you.

Oh yeah, I remember those days. An "employer". Wow, it's been a while.
