Steve,

I haven't tried Mint's version yet. I downloaded the latest Mint for VBox trials, but I haven't tested it yet.

I'm running PCLOS on a 1999 Dell Dimension 4100. The unit has 512MB of PC133 RAM. I'd add more if I could, but it's maxed out. To "beef it up", I added a 512MB AGP video card. LXDE just flies on that rig. "At rest", RAM consumption hovers between 3 to 5%, and RAM consumption is 152 MB, and swap is 54MB. I run folding at home on all my machines, 24/7. After starting the f@h client, RAM usage "jumps" to 169MB. Of course, the CPU is pegged with the client running.

The desktop is very snappy. The only speed constraints are bus speed, or lack thereof, and IDE channel speed.
