as defined by KDE4 and Opera, and the apparently defunct Desklets and Screenlets, for GNOME. In every case they appear to provide nothing of substance.

I think they want you to think of them as apps that just so happen to have a Web component. Sort of like a non-browser framework for Javascript code.

While I understand your viewpoint TA, I think it has merits.

I saw a vid in which Sebastian Kugler spoke about "project silk". ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RS9OGXT7YY )

"A concept to integrate content and services from the web to native desktop applications."

So we can choose: Use the browser as an OS, and as a means to access the internet, Use the OS as a means to access the internet, and omit the browser.

Opera and KDE are doing the second, Google the first.

It's up to you to choose, or just continue using your current OS and browser.
