I know that this is slightly off topic, but if you have a chance, check out the Ars Technica feature on the OS X Lion desktop,... remind you of anything?!?! Gnome 3 or Unity, maybe?!?!

Both Windows 8 and Lion use the basic concepts that started on netbooks and were migrated and refined in Moblin/MeeGo, Android, Unity and GNOME 3, in that order.

But I bet only the last two in that line have any registered patents for this stuff and likely to accuse the others of leeching off their intellectual property.

Do you mean the first two (Windoze or OS X Lion), or Gnome and Unity (Canonical) that have patents??? I haven't heard of the Gnome Foundation or Canonical exercising patents aggressively against anyone. M$ and Apple on the other hand...
