Holy cow, didn't see that on the 18th when it came out, and I'm a somewhat regular reader of Slashdot. That's a site that should never have gone corporate.

Funny, I don't remember getting a shareholder approval notice on my single share of Geeknet stock. Oh well.

I agree, and it looks like a DEFINITE top-down buyout approach the Dice Holdings suits are taking, as opposed to a grassroots, Community-like effort. Kinda reminds me of Oracle's buying-up of SUN Microsystems and MySQL, and then trying to squeeze the latter two for all they were worth. Could even be a far stretch of the imagination to say that Dice Holdings will *eventually* kill off /. and SF far down the road once it gets what it wants from the two (sorta like M$'s past EEE strategy!)

An uncharacteristic [serious], more optimistic view:

Just possibly, but without certainty, Dice might have reasons to not solely squeeze the life out of these sites for short [sighted] term gain. For example, if Linux is really winning in the server rooms where it counts, offending their potential clientèle and referrers is not a smart move. [However, who said those in charge of corporations need to be smart?] In any case, maybe Dice has rational reasons to keep these sites respectable (or in the case of slashdot not allowing it to sink further).

Thus, the future may be less dire* than it appears. Let's hope that might be the case.

Until then [/serious],

I've always thought Hairyfeetb was a muppet, and here I refer to the English usage of the term

Hairyfeet as a muppet? Nahh, Henson would get sued by the Tolkien estate.
