Tradeoffs are the issue for cheap tablets. Compared with a nexus 7 this has

1) Bigger screen

2) HDMI out

3) Slightly better battery

4) Slightly higher price tag

5) SSD expansion (none on Nexus)

6) Lousier cpu (Nexus has a quad processor)

7) No gps

8) Back facing camera but not very good.

9) Rooted out of the box

So you choose your compromise I guess.

Trade-offs, for sure,... But as I commented in the article,... 2 big things,... no mention of whether the bootloader's unlocked, and it does not appear to have chemically reinforced glass (Gorilla Glass or the generic equivalent).

I guess one can ask Cathy or Earl, there's a button on the page on the ZaReason site for doing exactly that.

So, I asked ZaReason... and yes the bootloader is unlocked, in addition, while they don't use Gotilla (brand) glass, they do use "a thin, high-quality/durable glass that is resistant to scratches"

It's an interesting box for the money. I agree with montezuma that there are compromises but it's definitely worth consideration.

Gotilla glass? tracyanne, have you come up with the next big thing?

It can't be the next big thing. I'm sure it'd run afoul of Flotilla Flass's copyrights, trademarks, and patents.

A friend of mine who is in the market looked at the ZaTab and is singularly unimpressed. Her take: single core, outdated display. She decided she'd rather drop the cash on a Galaxy Tab.
