Hey, it lasted for all of four months, and by the time this percolates out to all the distros Microsoft may have had a distinct advantage for seven or eight months in terms or making it difficult or scary to load Linux on a Win8 box for people who are not terribly technically inclined. If this is the best Microsoft could do to lock in customers they really do have problems.
