Perry has a point, but Ubuntu rubs many people the wrong way and these frustrations do surface on the Internet. As a positive outcome of this... It's been ages since I came across overheated flamefests about KDE vs Gnome. Could be Gnome 3 that ended it though ;) Or fights over Gentoo vs LFS, or Mandriva vs Fedora. Even Vi(m) vs Emacs has turned into more of a long running joke.

The squabbles around Ubuntu will die down too, eventually. Since Canonical has opted to go their own way, they will diverge in time to become something Linux based (like Android) and then what they do won't matter much to the GNU/Linux community. Right now they are just too close to being a GNU/Linux distro. Once they are squarely source incompatible with GNU/Linux, there is no need to bicker about it.

Front-panel toggles are cool, but I prefer hammer and chisel. :-D
