With all of the recent internet sp-ying scandal and Torvalds admitted n s a revelation it makes you wonder... But then it could just be something less intrusive and more kiddie like.. I guess we will never know because that part of the story is not open source.

Torvalds has since said he was just making a joke. Make of that what you will.

I don't see that taking a long time for forensics doesn't mean that security _of_ the kernel and the systems which serve it are not a priority. There are plenty of reasons for such a delay that I can think of.

Maybe the attack was so good that it's been just this hard to deconstruct it.

Maybe the attack was the NSA and they've prevented it from completing.

Maybe the forensic investigation is so detailed that the flaws being discovered are also being fixed as they go along, so that when the information is released it won't reveal any remaining exploitable holes.

Maybe, if I clap my hands real hard, the Tinkerbell server will recover.
