If you want to emulate the older systems then the best advice I can give is to get a Raspberry PI or an OUYA.

The Raspberry PI is less powerful but can easily emulate the Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, Amiga, Megadrive, SNES etc.

If you want slightly more power and you want more gaming than computing then the OUYA has emulators from the Spectrum up to the N64. The OUYA hasn't exactly taken the world by storm but I have one and I love it.

Also consider the Blaze Ultimate, a handheld games console that can emulator most megadrive games. (Only about £35)
