How about: Recognize iCal files! Natively!

Is there a good reason Android had to devise their own calendar format? (I mean other than "not invented here"?) I've been using ICalSync2 on my Android phone but it was sort of a pain to set up and use, then the configuration mysteriously "broke" one day. Not having to use such an application to sync my Linux desktop calendar and my phone would be most welcome.

@rnturn:

I imagine this is not too helpful, but I gave up on trying synchronize several calendars through connecting data streams directly. I've come to the conclusion that either no company wants it all to work seamlessly or no company cares if it works outside of their own walled garden... So, I put a caldav server on my test Internet server and store calendar and contacts there... It then becomes trivial to have the various other services contact my server and store the data in whatever format makes them happy.

Google does have a developer page describing their caldav API.

Perhaps it's possible for you to setup something manually using that.
