I keep hoping openSUSE, or some other major distribution, will support a Trinity desktop as a standard option. Would be awfully nice....in my humble opinion.

Ridcully - If you have not, you MUST try Q4OS with Debian 8 and Trinity. I really like it!

Aren't the Q4OS people planning to make that a "pay to play" distro, eventually, when they think it's ready? Or am I confusing them with some other project?

I think they plan to offer paid commercial support, but will not charge for the distro. Perhaps you are thinking of CoreOS?

I couldn't find anything saying it was pay to play, but it does look like they would like to make some money from paid support as seatex just said.
