Linux on opteron

It's that time of year again, time for another server upgrade, and this time I've been looking really hard at these Opterons. I'm still a little weak at the knees, considering it is such a big change, but I'm almost there. I've heard that MySQL gives much better performance under 64bit and they just released a version optimized for Opteron. I'd probably install Gentoo on it. Well, maybe one day I'll break down and do it. I think I could put together the server for under $1,000 (including 2G of RAM). dave |
