After more than 10 years of (mostly) active development, I am discontinuing development of InstallJammer. A migration plan is underway to move the InstallJammer assets to SourceForge for project hosting and to open up the project repositories for anyone who would care to work on the development in the future.

'Unhackable' Android can be hacked, Black Hat researchers say

Once thought to be unhackable, the Android phone is anything but, according to researchers presenting at Black Hat 2010. Not only has malicious software cloaked in a wallpaper application stolen personal information from infected phones and sent it to a Web site in China, but researchers from Lookout Mobile Security have found a way to take the phones over completely - including top-of-the-line models hawked by major wireless carriers.

India develops world's cheapest "laptop" at $35

India's Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal this week unveiled the low-cost computing device that is designed for students, saying his department had started talks with global manufacturers to start mass production. Sibal said the Linux based computing device was expected to be introduced to higher education institutions from 2011 but the aim was to drop the price further to $20 and ultimately to $10.

RawTherapee is now open source software

RawTherapee 3.0, a free RAW converter was released today licensed under GPL. The first alpha version of RawTherapee 3.0 is available for download. Note that this is not a feature complete version. In V3.0 both major GUI/workflow and algorithm changes are planned. This alpha version demonstrates the new, much more efficient GUI, but it does not contain any algorithmic changes yet.
