The next incremental update of LXLE has been released, ticking it up to 14.04.2 along with the last 32bit version of LXLE ever, which is based on 12.04.5. The 32bit closely mirrors the changes to the latest 64bit edition of the OS. As announced in our beta release LXLE now sports a highly customized version of the SeaMonkey Internet Suite.

LXLE 14.04.1 & 12.04.5 released.

The official release of the incremental update to LXLE 14.04 and 12.04.4 has undergone minor changes and a few bug fixes which is as follows:

LXLE Releases 14.04 64bit & 12.04.4 32bit (revisited)

First I would like to say that this release would not have been possible without the excellent user community effort that arrived to help by lending their time and knowledge, after the very bumpy beta debut. Thanks to all of you. Team members also deserve recognition for tolerating difficulties with the beta and internal frustrations that needed to be addressed. Kudos. Now on with the release notes.

LXLE 12.04.4 officially released.

After patiently waiting for Ubuntu to officially announce their 12.04.4 update and once the number of seeders of LXLE grew to an adequate level to 'serve' it, LXLE 12.04.4 has been released. This particular release builds on the idea that many 'at idle' processes can be replaced by 'on demand' solutions.

Gates Spends Entire First Day Back in Office Trying to Install Windows 8.1

Bill Gates’ first day at work in the newly created role of technology adviser got off to a rocky start yesterday as the Microsoft founder struggled for hours to install the Windows 8.1 upgrade. The installation hit a snag early on, sources said, when Mr. Gates repeatedly received an error message informing him that his PC ran into a problem that it could not handle and needed to restart.

Lubuntu eXtra Life Extension, aka LXLE, is based on Lubuntu, a version of Ubuntu running LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment). Trust me on this, you will not recognize many Ubuntu traces topside. If you have yet to experience the LXDE desktop, prepare yourself for a wonderfully smooth computing experience.

Steve Jobs, Google CEO plotted ‘gentlemen’s agreement ’ to keep wages down

Apple founder Steve Jobs and Google CEO Eric Schmidt apparently kept a secret pact to institute a “no-hire” policy in which each executive promised not to recruit each other’s workers. Yet the tech superstars are just two of the business leaders to be implicated in the wink-wink agreement, which reportedly included Google, Apple, Intel, Adobe, Intuit, and Pixar.

DuckDuckGo Region Boosted Search

DuckDuckGo's default settings return excellent hard to beat results, however they are not localized. Google's servers automatically provide Internet users all over the world with a "localized" version of their search engine. DuckDuckGo can't really provide this because they don't track you, therefore...

Paint an old toy for Christmas, revive an old PC with Linux.

As everything gets more expensive, at times a wonderful low-cost gift is cherished more so then the high priced latest fad gadget, particularly if its done right.

LXLE polishes beta, releases promo vid & more.

The second beta release of LXLE concentrated on squashing the bugs of the initial beta while smoothing some edges that came to light thanks to early testers feedback.

uDuck - A DuckDuckGo based Ubuntu help and support search

Sometimes a simple page and a custom search engine can be very helpful. There is nothing new or technically astounding about uDuck custom search. However having a handy way to search for any Ubuntu based OS help is nice.

LXLE releases LibreAnte, monetized downloads for all.

Not everyone can donate, not everyone will donate, and no one will donate all the time to every project they use. Many developers and free content creators have uttered the words, "if I could get such and such for each download/view". That would at least pay for the servers/equipment.

DDG, their own search, not just a proxy.

DuckDuckGo gets its results from over one hundred sources, including DuckDuckBot (their own crawler), crowd-sourced sites (like Wikipedia, which are stored in their own index), Yahoo! (through BOSS), Yandex, WolframAlpha, and Bing. For any given search, there is usually a vertical search engine out there that does a better job at answering it than a general search engine.

LXLE Paradigm goes final with 12.04.3 update.

Paradigm is a tentative attempt to create four different desktop paradigms for users to choose from once they start up their aging computers when using LXLE. Just because a computer may be aging shouldn't hinder your work flow. LXLE default programs are easy to understand once you understand the philosophy. 'If your going to save system resources with a light system, then you should spend those resources on more capable programs.'

LXLE 'Paradigm' first beta debut

LXLE Paradigm is an attempt to provide four different desktop paradigms to choose from, using nothing but straight LXDE and its available features. Currently you can pick the following layouts at startup; Default (XP), Mac OS X, Gnome 2 and Unity.

LXLE gets DuckDuckGo, Distrowatch and an update.

Late last week Distrowatch decided to create some room for LXLE on their infamous distro discovery site. I was really happy to see an official page for LXLE with an official url. Mid this week DuckDuckGo contacted me after months of review, with news that LXLE would be accepted into the fold of distributions...

Killing the desktop by omission; so the clouds can move in.

A few glaring realities start to emerge as a defined, purposeful and probably a fully coordinated, unspoken agreement between the industry heavy weights. Which is obtain complete control over personal computing through the cloud, if not through the desktop OS then a push into mobile and new cloud oriented operating systems that are not compatible with their PC counterparts.

NSA Scandal Reveals Google is not really like Linux and never was.

What is the most telling about these recent scandals are who are NOT on the list. I dare someone to show me one, "truly" free and opensource project that is on the government spy list. You can't count Google or Apple, both are trying to rein in opensource products and make them their own.

A Review: GetSimple CMS helps redefine the LXLE website.

I was recently on a quest to find a CMS solution to redesign and maintain the LXLE website. I wanted light yet robust and feature packed. Kinda of a tall order but was managed very well once I discovered GetSimple CMS. It's quick and powerful. It has features that every website needs, but with nothing it doesn't.

LXLE 12.04.2 Release Update Blognotes

I often say, Lubuntu and LXLE are like a Ford Mustang and a Ford Shelby Mustang. Both are Fords, both are Mustangs, but the Shelby version is much more feature rich, with very different goals/purpose. Same is true for LXLE.
