Ubuntu 13.04 users can expect to find Gnome 3.6 as the default desktop, and not the newer 3.8. But rumour suggests that users can still get their hands on Gnome 3.8 if they desire. After testing I found that it is actually 3.79.x that can be installed. Many of the same features are available, including classic desktop.

KDE PlasMate Software Development Toolkit

The release of KDE 4.10 includes a new software development toolkit called PlasMate. After briefly testing this SDK I can say that I am highly impressed. A massive number of features are available and already working well. PlasMate has only now reached version 0.1 Alpha 3 at the time of my tests.

Kate Text Editor Gains Mini-Map Scrolling Ability

The Kate text editor received a large number of bug fixes for the 4.10 release, and some exciting new features. A mini-map scroll bar is now available for Kate users, and an improved notification system. If you use the Kate text editor for KDE, be sure to take advantage of the latest changes.
