The hacking attempt started around the time that the giant machine was about to circulate its first particles, under the spotlight of the world's media. On Wednesday afternoon, as the world held its breath as the machine sparked up, CMS team members were scouring computers at the machine for half a dozen files uploaded by the hackers on September 9 and 10. "We think that someone from Fermilab's Tevatron (the competing atom smasher in America) had their access details compromised," said one of the scientists working on the machine. "What happened wasn't a big deal, just goes to show people are out there always on the prowl."

Mozilla CEO John Lilly on Apple and iPhone

Wired: Are you going to develop a version of Firefox for the iPhone? Lilly: No. Apple makes it too hard. They say it’s because of technical issues — they don’t want outsiders to disrupt the user experience. That’s a business argument masquerading as a technological argument. We’re focusing on more important stuff. The iPhone has been influential, but there’s not that many of them. We’re part of the LiMo Foundation — Linux on Mobile. The Razr V2 is a LiMo phone, and you’ll see more in the next year or so.

How To Change Your Login Screen In Mandriva

This is a simple howto on changing your log on screen. This will also work with other distros. This is a very easy way to add more eye candy to your Linux system. I do everything under Gnome GUI so let's get started. Please read the agreement at the bottom. First off you will need to get some new login screens. I go to http://www.gnome-look.org to get mine. Just look to the left side under content and click on GDM Themes. Pick one out or pick a few out, that's totally up to you. Next we need to open the Login Window Preferences screen so we can add our new theme or themes. Click on System->Administration->Login Window:

Tough love: Linux needs more haters (Re Linux Haters Blog)

The reasons that these screeds of hate work so well is that the author really knows what they're talking about. He or she is extremely knowledgeable and able to go into the details of every problem, sometimes as far as analyzing the underlying code and pointing out the problems (thank goodness for Free Software). They're right of course. Some of their complaints are amazingly well written, detailed, and are undoubtedly correct in pointing out flaws in a Linux distribution.

Open source should support Apple over Psystar

Apple licenses tie you down and are written in a way that would have Einstein tearing his hair out. Open source licenses give you freedom and are written in a language called English unknown to most lawyers. But if a company can ignore an Apple EULA, another company can ignore the GPL. Isn’t that what folks like Harold Welte at GPL Violations are fighting so hard for, the recognition of software contracts as legitimate?
