Victoria-based Remora Technologies has announced it will be offering a range of locally supported Linux and Solaris Notebooks in Australia, according to the company's media release.
Developed by Tadpole Computers, a vendor of UNIX platform notebooks, the systems include Intel-based Linux Notebooks and SPARC-based Solaris Notebooks.
The release claims the Tadpole TALIN, the Intel-based Linux Notebook, is a fully supported Linux platform notebook family. Running SUSE Linux and Sun Java Desktop System on a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor, the Notebook comes pre-installed with Star Office from Sun Microsystems, Ximiam Evolution and Mozilla, it says, and costs about $2,470.
Meanwhile, the SPARCLE, the SPARC-based UNIX notebooks, can be used to demonstrate, run and develop Solaris applications or as a portable SPARC-powered server and cost more than $6,189.
Tadpole's other products include the VIPER, a high-end Unix workstation and the COMET, which is compatible with Sun Ray ultra-thin client from Sun Microsystems. The company is also planning to launch its first notebooks based on Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s Opteron processor by June-end.
