Canonical announces an Ubuntu certification scheme
Canonical has announced that it will offer its own certification programme for Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and that graduates will be entitled to claim an 'Ubuntu Certified Professional' certification. Previously Canonical had worked with the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) to offer the Ubuntu Certified Professional exam which combined the general Linux LPI 101 and 102 modules with the Ubuntu 199 module to provide an Ubuntu tailored qualification.
The joint programme with the LPI had been very successful, but there was great demand for a pure Ubuntu certification. Now that the new Long Term Support version is nearing completion and release, Canonical has decided to start its own certification programme and offers an online pre-training assessment to determine if the programme is suitable for the prospective candidate.
Students may choose to prepare online by taking the 60-90 minute test. An e-learning version will be available from May and the first courses from training partners will be available in June. Fees for the programme have not yet been revealed, but they are likely to amount to around $300 to $350 (approximately £200).
