Version 11.0 of Calculate Linux has been released. This release of the Gentoo-based operating system, which we benchmarked last August, brings many improvements to this promising distribution that -- like Sabayon and others -- makes it easier to run Gentoo on desktops and servers.

The Calculate Linux 11.0 family includes the Calculate Linux Desktop (CLD; uses KDE By default), Calculate Linux Desktop GNOME (CLDG), Calculate Linux Desktop Xfce (CLDX), Calculate Linux Scratch (CLS), Calculate Directory Server (CDS), and Calculate Scratch Server (CSS).

Principal changes in Calculate Linux 11.0 include adding binary repositories for the major Calculate Linux releases with rolling-release support, introducing the Calculate Scratch Server distribution, publicly available weekly builds, a more user-friendly interface to the Calculate Linux Desktop, better netbook support, Canon printer support, upgrading Portage to version 2.2, and kernel mode-setting is now finally used by this distribution for supported Intel IGPs.

Key versions for Calculate Linux 11.0 include KDE 4.5.5, GNOME 2.30, Xfce 4.8, X.Org 7.4, Linux 2.6.36 Kernel, Chromium 8 web-borwser, and OpenOffice 3.2.1.
