In an overwhelming vote for renaming, the Hudson project is to become Jenkins. A vote was announced and held on the Hudson developers mailing list after the breakdown of discussions with Oracle over the governance and management of the CI (continuous integration) software. Oracle claims to own the Hudson trademark and believes that this ownership should give it control over the project. The results were 214 for the renaming of the project and 14 for maintaining the status quo of Oracle control. Oracle have previously called this move a fork, but the developers believe that it is more a renaming of the project because Oracle have been responsible for only one per cent of the commits to the project since Hudson's creator left the company and joined the Hudson-centric company CloudBees.

The developers have already registered jenkins-ci.org and are moving Twitter accounts and mailing lists to the new name. The temporary governance of the project will be handled by Kohsuke Kawaguchi, the creator of Hudson; Andrew Bayer, a core contributor to Hudson; and Dean Wu of Yahoo, a longtime Hudson contributor. Oracle's Winston Prakash was invited to take a seat on the interim board but declined to accept the position; his seat on the interim board was filled by Wu. Bayer said that "Jenkins is not Oracle's project, nor CloudBee's project, nor my project, nor Kohsuke's project - it's the community's project, and it's going to thrive".
