When the current gnome shell theme mockups started to coming in, one of the first reactions was that the theme looked so dark and so boring. I am one of those who admire the beauty of gnome shell and its default theme. Thanks to it, for the first time I have a wonderful looking desktop (by default) that so nice to look at (even ubuntu was never this beautiful) and at the same time does not look like a cheap windows rip off. For the first time linux desktop has a character of its own and makes a unique feel to your computer.

Ok, but that is not everyone. May be you belong to the other gang where you are kind of bored with the default theme or want to go the other extreme. Within such a short time there are many good themes developed and ready to use. Here you will find five unique gnome shell themes that you will surely want to try out if you want to make your desktop truly unique. Find below a screenshot tour and links to the download pages.

Themes are nice. Waiting for G3 to hit in Debian GNU/Linux testing

Is there any particular reason that claim that these themes are for Fedora 15? Of course they are for Fedora as well but they are going to work with any other Linux distro with gnome 3 too.

    • vjjustin says:

The only reason is Fedora 15 is the only distribution that have gnome 3 and its shell available as default. So I thought there might be far more people using gnome shell in fedora than any other distributions.
But you are right, these themes are distro neutral.

In fact I’m an Arch Linux user and gnome 3 is in official repository since 04/30 replacing gnome 2. So Fedora isn’t the only one nor the first one. Arch is #6 at distrowatch so it’s not a niche distribution either.

Arch has Gnome 3 and the shell available but not as a package installed by default. If the title had been “themes for ArchLinux” It wouldn’t have made a lot of sense. The title could be all encompassing and be specific to Gnome 3 and shell but seriously, it should be quite obvious.

Is there one that makes it work like Gnome 2? Taskbar, menu, etc.
