Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha 3 Released - Changes and Screenshots

Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot Alpha 3 has been released and is now available for download. This release features Linux Kernel 3.0 final, Thunderbird 6, Firefox 6 and New Gwibber with improved design.

Comipz, Unity and Unity 2D has been updated and Unity 2D is now fully compatible with GTK3. Both Unity and Unity 2D share same settings and Unity 2D have now better accessibility support.


A new application switcher (ALT+TAB keyboard shortcut) can be used by hitting CTRL+TAB as of now for quickly changing between applications. In future it can get support for multiple windows for same applications and window previews.


Software center has been improved with faster installation of standalone deb files. A new top rated carousel also shows up on main software center page. Some of the sub categories like Games and Internet show their own top rated carousel now.



Compiz Config Settings Manager have got more options for adjusting Unity launcher settings. New options include settings for launcher opacity, mounted devices and launcher edge reveal timeout.



The grid plugin in compiz (window snap feature) has also been updated with new smoother fade animations.



LightDM now supports system themes but the redesigned Unity Greeter is yet to be made default.

Gwibber has been updated with all new look.


Lastly, Me Menu has been merged into messaging menu for a consistent look and behavior.
