You may have noticed several Phoronix articles in recent weeks using a ZaReason notebook built around Intel's "Sandy Bridge" processor. This is one of the new notebooks from ZaReason that had been in our labs for testing. Here is a last look at the Strata 6880 notebook from this Linux-focused PC vendor.

The ZaReason Strata 6880 is self-described as "a blast of power in a portable container. Comfortable to use, this laptop is high-end even with the base model." Besides the Strata 6880, the other notebooks offered by ZaReason at the moment include the Strata Pro13, Alto 3880, Verix 17, and Chimera models. The Strata 6880 is a mid-range notebook with the base pricing at $849 USD.

The Strata 6880 features an Intel Sandy Bridge CPU, NVIDIA GeForce 540M discrete graphics, combo CD/DVD drive, and 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 display. The precise CPU and disk model can be customized from being a Pentium B940 (base model) to a high-end Intel Core i7 2630QM. There is obviously also the usual features for any modern notebook: 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, integrated multi-card reader, 1.3MP web-camera, Gigabit Ethernet, etc.

ZaReason advertises this notebook as having a battery life of up to three hours or two hours during DVD playback, which is not too much for a six-cell battery. The dimensions on this 15.6-inch notebook are 37.6 x 24.9 x 3.48 cm with an overall weight of 2.50 kilograms. Like ZaReason's other notebooks, they are not the actual OEM. The ZaReason Strata 6880 is identified by the Phoronix Test Suite as being a Compal PBL21.
