14 DAY TRIAL // After Firefox 8 officially landed in Ubuntu 11.10 last week, earlier today (November 28th) Canonical announced that the Mozilla Thunderbird 8.0 email client is now available on the official software repositories of the Oneiric Ocelot operating system.
All Ubuntu 11.10 users can now upgrade (by running the Software Update app from the Settings icon) their default email client to Thunderbird 8.0, which was officially released by Mozilla at the end of the month, on November 8th, 2011.
Mozilla Thunderbird 8.0 is based on the new Mozilla Gecko 8 engine, providing new find and search shortcuts, as well as better accessibility of the attachment list.
Moreover, the folder switching pane widget was removed from the Mozilla Thunderbird 8.0 email client, and several platform specific stability and security issues were fixed.
