Mandriva's Alive!

by Ostatic Staff - Apr. 13, 2012

A post has emerged from the Mandriva camp today and it even gives a dab of information on the future of Mandriva. They have put out a call to interested parties to speak out and let their thoughts be known.

Jean-Manuel Croset, Mandriva COO, said today that they'd like to get "the opinion and ideas of the community, as well as to feel how strong you are." He says that the desktop distribution has been their foundational product and that its community is a necessary element of that.

So, he reveals that Mandriva will hold a shareholders meeting on April 30 to decide what to do with Mandriva. They obviously would like to hear that the community is still there and get their ideas on a future direction.

An email has been posted for those with a connection to Mandriva or those who would like a connection to Mandriva to sing out. This probably means developers, loyal users, and those who would like to be either. They do not want commentary on anything else other than ideas for the direction of the desktop.

It looks like we may get an inkling of Mandriva's immediate strategy sometime after April 30, perhaps within days or weeks. For the optimistic among us, it does appear Mandriva is still trying to survive amidst all their financial issues. One might even infer they are thinking about going heavy on the volunteer / community route.

Mandriva remains alive, if not real strong. I have seen security advisories continue to go out as well. So, they may be on life support, but they ain't dead yet.
