Cinnamon, the project out of the Linux Mint camp for a new desktop that's based upon upstream GNOME but brings back memories of GNOME2, has now entered Fedora 17 through the stable updates repository.

Just days after Ubuntu's Unity was made available for Fedora 17, the Cinnamon desktop is now available. Unlike the Unity packages that are on the openSUSE Build Service, the Cinnamon package has been approved by Fedora developers for the stable updates repository to the Fedora 17 "Beefy Miracle".

The package was approved on Friday and the long review process of the Cinnamon desktop package can be found in this Red Hat BugZilla entry. Package details are available here. There's more than 140 bug comments on "Review Request: cinnamon - Window management and application launching for GNOME"

Cinnamon 1.4 UP1 is the latest upstream version of the Cinnamon desktop and what's been packaged for Fedora.
