The GNOME Project unleashed a few minutes ago, August 28th, the immediate availability for download and testing of the first Beta release of the upcoming GNOME 3.6 desktop environment.

GNOME 3.6 Beta is an important release for the development of the GNOME 3.6 desktop environment, as it comes with all the nice features that will be part of the final release. From here on, the development team will only focus on polishing these features and fixing annoying bugs.

Among some interesting features that are included in this Beta release of GNOME 3.6, we can mention the ability to configure various effects for the magnifier tool, a redesigned Mouse & Touchpad panel, a new mode-less overview, redesigned message tray, improved Adwaita theme, and much more.

Below we've attached some screenshots to exemplify the aforementioned features, courtesy of Matthias Clasen. The next development release towards GNOME 3.6 will be GNOME 3.6 Beta 2, available next month, on September 5th, 2012.

Download GNOME 3.6 Beta sources right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a beta release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
