New & Updated Linux Benchmarks

Pushed to OpenBenchmarking.org over the night were several new and updated test profiles for Linux performance benchmarking.

There's a mass update going on right now of test profiles to pull in the latest upstream packages for many different components. This is for the AMD Trinity testing on Linux plus some other upcoming hardware launches, etc. It's also simply that some of the upstream test cases are out of date compared to the latest upstream versions.

Among the updated tests include:

ffmpeg-2.0.0 incorporates the recent FFmpeg 1.0 release plus uses a new H.264 HD video file as input.

x264-1.4.0 pulls in the latest x264 snapshot release of the video encoder as of yesterday.

vpxenc-1.1.0 pulls in the upstream libvpx 1.1.0 release.

compress-pbzip2-1.4.0 integrates BZIP2 1.0.6 and PBZIP2 1.1.6.

graphics-magick-1.5.1 leverages GraphicsMagick 1.3.16 from upstream.

john-the-ripper-1.4.0 updates JTR to 1.7.9-jumbo-7.

openssl-1.7.0 updates to OpenSSL 1.0.1c.

apache-1.5.0 updates to Apache/HTTPD 2.4.3.

When it comes to new test profiles, there's been two committed in the past day:

encode-opus as a test profile for measuring the audio encoding and decoding of the Opus Audio Codec that was recently improved as an IETF standard.

dolfyn is a new Computational Fluid Dynamics test for stressing the processor.

As long as you're using Phoronix Test Suite 3.0+ (though using the latest release is always recommended, which right now is Phoronix Test Suite 4.0-Suldal), these new/updated test profiles are immediately available. Simply run the Phoronix Test Suite and they are there via the OpenBenchmarking.org repository. If you have run the Phoronix Test Suite in the past 48 hours, you may need to run phoronix-test-suite openbenchmarking-refresh to pull in the latest OpenBenchmarking.org meta-data since the time to live for caches until automated updates is three days. Following that just run phoronix-test-suite benchmark [the test you wish to run].

As always, if you wish to run an older version of a test profile, it's as easy as e.g. phoronix-test-suite benchmark openssl-1.6.0 by explicitly specifying a test profile version number (listed on the OpenBenchmarking.org test profile pages), which is also how it's handled when running result file comparisons for ensuring the versions match. When no version is appended to the test profile, the latest version is used automatically.

Coming up in the next few days will also be the first milestone release of Phoronix Test Suite 4.2, which is being developed under the codename Randaberg.
