Ubuntu 12.10 Adds an Option to Disable Amazon Search Results

Ubuntu 12.10 includes a new shopping lens that shows Amazon search results in dash. These results are related to the query you typed in dash while searching for applications, files or other stuff.

If a user clicks on these results and makes a purchase from Amazon, Ubuntu gets affiliate revenue which is invested back into Ubuntu development.

This feature has not been received well and users have raised questions on privacy and its utility as a default lens. Most of the privacy issues have been resolved and now a new option in Ubuntu 12.10 has landed that will allow you to disable online search results for all lenses including the shopping lens.

As this feature turns off all online content in dash, other lenses like Social lens will not work properly. A more ideal solution will land in Ubuntu 13.04 that will allow you to disable online features of each lens separately.
