openSUSE 12.2 for ARM released
The developers at the openSUSE project have released a version of their Linux distribution for ARM hardware. The new version for the ARM architecture supports ARMv7-type hardware and is based on openSUSE 12.2, incorporating a number of enhancements and features from that release.
Among the officially supported platforms are the BeagleBoard, PandaBoard and the VersatileExpress devices. According to Jos Poortvliet, openSUSE Community Manager, other devices, such as the Calxeda Highbank, i.MX53 Loco (IMX53QSB), CuBox and the Origen board, are "supported as 'best effort'"; the Toshiba AC100 netbook and Gumstix Overo boards are said to also work but are not yet officially supported.
Pre-built images of openSUSE 12.2 for ARM can be downloaded from the project's servers. Installation instructions, as well as a list of supported ARM boards, are available on the openSUSE Wiki.
