Matthias Clasen proudly announced a few minutes ago, November 15, that the second and last maintenance release of the GNOME 3.6 desktop environment is now available for download.

GNOME 3.6.2 is a necessary upgrade for all users of GNOME 3.6, bringing many enhancements, squashing numerous bugs and updating lots of translations.

An interesting thing to mention about this release is that it comes with a greatly improved GNOME Shell, Nautilus, NetworkManager and GNOME Control Center apps. Also, the Empathy IM client has a few interesting changes, as well as the GNOME Online Accounts and GNOME Settings Manager.

"The second update to GNOME 3.6 series is now available. As usual it provides bug fixes, translations updates and small improvements, in order to make our stable release even more stable and useful."

"It may sound boring but there are interesting changes in there, and valuable documentation and translation updates. Our thanks to all community members and to everybody who contributed to this release," said Matthias Clasen in the official release announcement.

Among the updated apps in GNOME 3.6.2, we can mention NetworkManager, Brasero, Empathy, Eye of GNOME, GCalctool, GStreamer, Gucharmap, GUPnP, gvfs, dconf, Nautilus, NetworkManager Applet, Totem, Tracker, Vala, Vino, VTE, and Yelp.

As usual, there are also some updated GNOME components as well, among which we can mention GDM (GNOME Display Manager), GNOME Contacts, GNOME Control Center, GNOME Desktop, GNOME Font Viewer, GNOME Icon Theme, GNOME Keyring, GNOME Menus, GNOME Online Accounts, GNOME PackageKit, GNOME Panel, GNOME Screenshot, GNOME Session, GNOME Settings Daemon, GNOME Shell, GNOME System Log, GNOME Themes, GNOME User Docs, GTK+, GTKmm, Mutter, Pango, PyGobject, Glib2.

Just like the previous maintenance release, GNOME 3.6.2 is not a downloadable upgrade for end users, which will have to wait until their distribution’s maintainers compile and package the sources for their specific operating system.
