In the latest update to the Java servlet container Tomcat, the TomEE development team has done a lot more than just fix a few bugs. TomEE 1.5.1 includes an option to improve classloader customisation and the ability to inject remote initial context into TomEE clients.

The new version has also gained a Maven Archetype for creating projects with TomEE and a module for improving tests for Arquillian TomEE adapters. The Maven plugin now offers the ability to reload applications and TomEE 1.5.1 also has the ability to reduce the JPA (Java Persistence API) scanning overhead, as it no longer has to outsource scanning of an entity to its provider.

A complete list of all changes and bug fixes can be found in the release notes. TomEE is available under the Apache 2.0 License from the project's download page. The Apache TomEE community is still searching for a logo. The call for submission of proposals has been renewed, the deadline now has been extended to 15 January 2013.
